Toy Chimp

Just found this at a garage sale and not sure of the name of this toy and what it did.

Just the Facts (as we know them):

Nice garage sale find!

That's "Clancy the Great" from 1963 and made by the Ideal Toy Company. Looks like yours is missing his hat. The way it worked was you would put a coin in Clancy's hat in hand and he'll skate towards you, or you could hold his hand and he'd skate as you walked along.

Clancy would also work with quarters or dimes.. to complete the electric circuit. usually corrosion would affect his contacts.. but could be cleaned easily enough with alittle sand paper. more info at http://www.timewarptoys.com/toptoys.htm

I had one too! Spent hours driving everyone nuts with mine...The "coins" were blank punched sheet metal, if I remember correctly! The idea was to stand back about three feet and try to toss it into his hat (held in his outstretched hand) and he would walk over and return it to you... BZ, Glendale, AZ

Wow. I had one of these as a kid & it blows me away to finally see a photo of him after all these years. He had a yellow hat & if memory serves, you could hold his hand & he would walk with you.
