Welcome to Patine, Flashbacks.com's Founders Blog

A brief introduction to flashbacks.com's co-founders, Kyle and Charles, where we try to remember the first time we met in Chicago's premiere pop culture collectibles store, Flashbacks.

Thanks for dropping by. This work in progress is a think tank lab of personal memories and nostalgic timelines. Flashbacks is going to be a place for fans of Pop Culture to call home and have a space to share knowledge and memories.

Kodak Retires Kodachrome Color Film After 74-Year Run

"They give us those nice bright colors. They give us the greens of summers. Makes you think all the world's a sunny day," Mama don't take my Kodak Kodachrome away...

Kodak announced on Monday it's retiring its Kodachrome line of film, because of low customer demand in this digital age.
This iconic film will be particularly missed by still and motion picture photographers for its true tones and vibrant colors .
My personal memories of kodacrhome are from the eighties, shooting hundreds of rolls of kodachrome 64 35mm slide film with my Nikon F3.
The real magic of this wonderful film was that it made life look bright, clear and intense.

Analog TV Ending Today

The final signoff for a 60-year-old technology.

Goodbye analog TV! Thanks for all those years of magic moving pictures. You woke me up with cartoons and put me to bed with Marx Brother's movies. Those static and ghost images are being replaced with digital gaps. My memories of TV will always be in analog.

R.I.P. General Motors' Pontiac 1926-2009

The brand with an eye on the future, will soon to be part of the past.

I must say up front that I've never been a "car guy." But as a traditionalist with a heart for nostalgia, it makes me sad to see Pontiac end production in this way. After eight decades of being part of GM, Pontiac is the latest casualty of a radical down-sizing of car makers.

For my generation, The seventies Firebird was probably the best known of the Pontiac models . Everyone knows someone who had one of these decade defining classics. With that huge bird painted on the hood and powerful V8 engine, this was a true American made working man's muscle car.

Independently Owned Record Stores Come Together on April 18th 2009

"I've always enjoyed the record shops...they gave me a reason to leave my house." - Pete Yorn
Record Store Day

The original idea for Record Store Day was conceived by Chris Brown, and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.

Match Game Memories with Dick DeBartolo

As a game show nerd. My many years of watching The Match Game has made my _________ grow very large.
Match Game 1979

Dick DeBartolo has been a writer for Mad Magazine since 1966. But what many people do not know is that he was also a writer on the Match Game for twenty years. He wrote over thirty-thousand risqué "fill-in-the-blank questions" featuring contestants attempting to match celebrities' answers.

Retro Cereal Makes a Return to the Grocery Shelves

Cuts the roof of your mouth just like the old days.

Trix - Old & New

Old school, original style General Mills cereal boxes are back. While trolling the aisles of my local grocery/big box store the distinctive box art caught my eye.

Target secured a month long exclusive on General Mills' retro box designs for its best selling cereals including: Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Kix, Cocoa Puffs and Trix.

General Mills also has some vintage T-shirts offered at Cereal Wear. I couldn't resist ordering two Trix and three Kix shirts and I'm tempted to go back for more.

Star Wars Geeks Rule in Fanboys

The movie follows four Star Wars' fanboys from the Midwest, who drive across the country to honor the wish of their dying friend.

It has been nine years since I have set foot into a movie theater. But this will all change next week when Fanboys comes out. I have too much geek cred to wait for a DVD release.

Mark Evanier' memories of working with Ricardo Montalban

"Ricardo Montalban was talented and handsome and gifted and a true gentleman"

Mark Evanier has a great story about working with Ricardo Montalban.

On the other hand, I do have a personal anecdote about the fine actor, Ricardo Montalban, who has passed away at the age of 88.
